SKIN REJUVENATION / ANTIAGEING TREATMENTS

Ageing of the skin is caused by DNA damage. Our body can repair some DNA damage using ezymes  (nucleotide excision repair enzymes). As we age the activity and production of the repairing enzymes slows and is less effective. Excessive sun exposure and smoking are two common causes of premature ageing and sun damage.

At South East Dermatology our Dermatologists and Cosmetic (Aesthetic) Nurses are experts in choosing the best treatments to address your concerns.

SKIN PEELS

There are many topical peeling agents that are used by Dermatologists to treatment various skin conditions.

Examples of conditions treated  include.

  • Acne
  • Melasma
  • Increased Pigmentation
  • Wrinkles

The strength and type of chemical peel can be tailored to suit the patient and skin condition.

The depth can be changed by increasing the concentration of the peel. The deeper the peeling agent penetrates the bigger the effect and the longer the recovery time.

Glycolic acid, Trichloraceticacid , Lactic Acid and Salicyclic acid are the most common peeling agents.

Our Dermatologists and Cosmetic (Aesthetic) Nursing staff can advise regarding the best options for your skin.

In recent times Peels have largely been replaced by the use of :

1. Intense pulsed light for pigmentation

2. Fractionated Laser for rejuvenation , acne scar treatment and reduction in pigmentation

ANTIWRINKLE INJECTABLES

Antiwrinkleinjectiable treatments are  a very popular treatment for reduction in the appearance of dynamic wrinkles.  Drnamic wrinkles are those that form when you frown, squint and smile.

The sites most often treated include:

  • Forehead
  • Frown lines
  • Crows feet

They do not significantly affect the lines visible when your facial muscles are at rest.

The treatment involves injections of small volumes of medication into the muscles. A small gauge needle is used and discomfort is minimal.

In the right hands this treatment is safe and effective.  This treatment gives a temporary reduction in wrinkles only and requires repeat treatment to maintain the effect.

Our Dermatologists and Aesthetics nurse can advise you regarding the best combination of treatments to achieve the results you are after.

DERMAL FILLERS

Dermal fillers are substances injected into the skin to restore skin volume.

It is surprising how little filler is required to make a large improvement in the appearance of the skin and face.

The active ingredients in a dermal fillers attract water to the treatment area, helping to hydrate and revitalise the skin.

Dermal fillers are often used for

  • Add volume to lips
  • Add volume to facial contours eg cheeks and temples
  • Fill scars where other treatments are not available eg acne
  • Soften wrinkles

Many of the treatments used for Rejuvenation and Anti-ageing have long lasting lasting effects and the potential risks and complications of treatment should be understood by the patient.

You can be reassured that our Aestehtic Nurses work under the supervision of an onsite Specialist Dermatologist , an expert in skin disease and skin treatment. If there are any concerns about the treatment then the Dermatologist is available for advice.
